Eileen’s Garden
The Show That Was Never Meant To Be Made
Why Can’t You Understand Me? was created in the summer of 2019. In March of 2020, a non-union proof of concept was scheduled to film in the hopes of pitching the series. At the time, WCYUM? followed Eileen and her roommate, Barbra.
The proof of concept never made it to camera due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Not willing to give up, Sadie and her parents filmed two 10-minute episodes in their backyard while quarantined. These episodes were filmed outside, while actors and crew stood two feet apart at all times, with a maximum of five people on set. The premise of the show had to be reworked in order to accommodate these safety protocols. Thus, the new name Eileen’s Garden was given to the show.
The show now followed Eileen and her sister, Eve, making the best of being quarantined while struggling through their 20s. Eve was such a wonderful addition that the character was added to WCYUM?
Adding Eve to the cast meant reworking the plot again. Now, the show followed Eileen, JP, and Eve, who lived next door to Barbra and Gwen. The official pilot for WCYUM? was shot in 2023 for $40,000 with professional union actors and crew. The show is currently being pitched for development on a streaming platform.
The show has come a long way since its first script in 2019. What’s stayed consistent is the heart. It’s always followed the themes of female friendship, existentialism, and surviving your 20s.
